Our crews will do everything they can to restore power as safely and efficiently as possible to all of our members. Often times we take things for granted, not realizing how essential electricity is until there is a power outage. Weather-related disasters and power outages can happen at any time, which is why it is important to be prepared ahead of time. Planning and preparing are the keys to being safe and comfortable during power outages. Part of this preparedness includes having an emergency kit on hand. South Kentucky RECC encourages its members who require electricity to power their medical devices to develop a backup plan in the event of an outage. Even with a medical note on your South Kentucky RECC account, we cannot promise uninterrupted power. We make every effort to quickly and safely restore power, however, we cannot provide a specific timeframe for when your power will be restored. The link below provides members with oxygen and medical devices information, so that if a power outage occurs, you can have a plan in place.
Refrigerated or frozen foods may not be safe to eat after the loss of power. Find out what you need to do to keep your food safe during a power outage and when you need to throw away food that could make you sick. Remember, when in doubt, throw it out!
Generator Safety
Planning to use a portable generator if your power goes out? Taking simple precautions now, such as having transfer switches installed by a qualified electrician can keep you, your family, and utility workers safe from the dangers resulting from improper use of a portable generator.
When an outage occurs, our crews will work as quickly and safely as possible to restore power – but with nearly 72,000 members, it can take some time to restore power, especially during a significant weather event.
