In April 2022, the Kentucky legislature passed House Bill 8 (HB-8). The goal of this bill is to help offset the reduction in the state individual income tax rate that is being implemented over the next several years.
Beginning January 1, 2023, only a person’s “domicile” (primary residence) will be exempt from state sales tax on utility services, including electric bills. To make sure state sales tax is not applied to the electric bill of your primary residence, South Kentucky RECC members having multiple active electric accounts may need to take immediate action.
To ensure you are taxed correctly, please complete the KENTUCKY DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE FORM FOUND HERE and return it to your local SKRECC office or email it to skrecc@skrecc.com by January 25, 2023.
Failure to return a completed form will result in all of your accounts being taxed according to the guidelines from the Kentucky Department of Revenue. Once a form is received, your account(s) will be updated, but any prior taxes charged are not refundable through SKRECC.
