South Kentucky RECC Hosts Local High School Juniors at the State Capitol

Nearly 100 high school students from across Kentucky gathered at the State Capitol on March 13 for the annual Frankfort Youth Tour—an event designed to introduce students to the inner workings of state government, the importance of civic engagement, and the role electric cooperatives play in their communities.

As part of the event, South Kentucky RECC sponsored nine local high school juniors, giving them a firsthand look at Kentucky’s legislative process. The students toured the historic Capitol building, visited both the Senate and House chambers during live sessions, and met with state officials to learn more about how government decisions are made.

“At South Kentucky RECC, we believe in investing in our youth and equipping them with the tools to become tomorrow’s leaders,” said Kevin Newton, President & CEO of South Kentucky RECC. “By connecting students with real-world government experiences, we hope to inspire them to become active participants in shaping their communities.”

The Frankfort Youth Tour is one of many initiatives South Kentucky RECC supports to promote leadership, education, and civic responsibility among local youth.
