Disconnects for non-payment to resume November 5.
In March of this year, South Kentucky RECC temporarily suspended disconnects and late fees for nonpayment. While this measure was not something we can sustain indefinitely, we did this as an emergency relief to help our members who suddenly found themselves in financial hardship due to the COVID-19 health crisis.
SKRECC understands that the past 6 months have been challenging for our members, but we are committed to working with you to navigate the financial difficulties associated with your electric account.
Regulated utilities in Kentucky may start disconnecting power to members who have not paid their bills as of October 1, 2020. In an effort to give our members who have accumulated arrearages on their electric account from March 16, 2020 to October 1, 2020, additional time and opportunities to make arrangements with the co-op, South Kentucky RECC will not resume disconnections for accounts with a past due balance until November 5, 2020. Late fees will not be assessed until after December 31, 2020 for our residential members. Late fees will resume for all other member accounts on October 20, 2020.
To avoid being subject to disconnection, members with a past due balance must take action in one of the following ways by November 1:
Pay the past due balance in full prior to November 1.
Members who pay their bills monthly may select the PrePay program. With this option, past due balances will be placed in a debt management plan. PrePay is a program in which members pay for electricity before they use it or as they use it, rather than after it has been used. Members would need to make an initial, minimum purchase of $100. After the initial payment, members have the flexibility to pay when the want and in any amount they want so to keep a positive available dollar amount on their account. Additionally, all future payments will be a 70/30 split with 70% going toward the electric purchase and 30% being used to pay down the debt management plan. This option also allows any deposit previously paid to be applied toward the past due amount. We estimate the length of time to pay the past due amount will be 20-24 months. Our member service representatives can provide additional details or answer any questions you may have.
Members who pay their bill monthly may select up to a 12-month payment plan based upon fixed, equal payment installments. This payment plan will require the on-time payment of both the current bill and the payment installment amount due. Members on an installment plan may pay ahead at any time.
Current PrePay members may elect to have negative balance amounts as of October 5, 2020, rolled-over to debt management. All future payments would be split with 70% going toward electric and 30% applied to the debt management balance.
