Local Student Wins State Scholarship

South Kentucky RECC is pleased to announce that Holly Estes, of Eubank, has been awarded a $1,000.00 Kentucky Women in Rural Electrification (WIRE) scholarship. Kentucky WIRE is a group of women representing the 26 electric cooperatives across the state, including South Kentucky RECC.

Holly EstesHolly Estes is quite a cooperative success story. In 2013, Holly was a South Kentucky RECC Washington Youth Tour winner, and then in 2014, she was a recipient of the SKRECC $1,000.00 Senior Scholarship.

Holly has been studying at Somerset Community College and is transferring to Western Kentucky University to begin the fall semester. Her major is accounting, and she plans to participate in the WKU Joint Undergraduate-Master’s Program, which provides academically outstanding students the opportunity to complete both their undergraduate and graduate degree in five years. With Holly’s previous two years at Somerset Community College, she feels she can complete the program in three years. From there, her plans include taking the exam to become a certified public accountant.

Holly is the daughter of Ricky and Carolyn Estes, Eubank.

Kentucky WIRE scholarships are open to any eligible student whose family is served by a Kentucky electric cooperative, such as South Kentucky RECC, and has at least 60 hours of credit at a Kentucky college or university by the start of the fall term. (Electric cooperative employees, directors, managers, and their relatives, and those of Big Rivers Electric Corporation, East Kentucky Power Cooperative, and the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives, are not eligible.) Applications are usually available by March of each year and due in May.
